Superintendent

Rodney Hetherton is the current Superintendent of Swartz Creek Community Schools. Rod has had numerous other leadership positions in Swartz Creek Community Schools, including elementary principal, high school principal, curriculum director, and deputy superintendent. Before SCCS, Rod taught in Fenton Area Public Schools and at St. Robert School in Flushing, Michigan. Rodney’s goal is to create a sustainable culture of learning in SCCS while continuing to bolster robust interventions under the MTSS umbrella.

Swartz Creek Community Schools has pioneered MTSS for many years, focusing on academic and behavioral interventions. Over the last five years, the district has prioritized mental wellness at the Tier 1, 2, and 3 levels. Most recently, SC has been using weekly wellness survey data to understand the mental health of all students. This session will provide insight into the why, what, and how of making mental wellness an integral part of your MTSS plan.

Focus: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion/School Safety/Mental Health & Wellness/Teaching & Learning.
