Okemos Public Schools takes pride in their mission of “Together…educating with excellence, inspiring each learner for life.” The district is situated in the south-central portion of Michigan’s lower peninsula near Lansing, the state capital, and shares a common border with Michigan State University. Approximately four thousand five hundred students attend four elementary schools (three traditional and one public Montessori), a 5-6 school and a 7-8 school (each with Montessori), and one high school. With Christman and TowerPinkster, Okemos developed a $275 Million bond proposal with a 0 mill increase in November of 2022. The bond passed by 68.1% and the construction process is now underway. Inclusive Community Engagement for Successful Bond Programs [DEI/Leadership Development/Other]

Aligning bond programs to district and community needs and the outreach necessary to garner community support is an art and a science. In this facilitated panel discussion, you’ll hear from two superintendents along with their construction manager and architect partners who have traversed the unique twists and turns of bond program scope development. Through a series of Q&As with active audience engagement, we’ll explore best practices for fostering inclusive processes, building trust, and pursuing equity.
