Dr. Bill Barnes
Superintendent
Dr. Bill Barnes is the superintendent of Grand Ledge Public Schools, and has served in that capacity since August of 2022. Prior to that role, he was the assistant superintendent for academic services for Grand Ledge Public Schools for three years. Before joining GLPS, Bill worked for Charlotte Public Schools for 14 years, where he was the high school principal for eight years, an intervention coordinator and writing coach for two years, and a math and English teacher for four years. He also served as English department chair, as an assistant football coach, and as forensics adviser throughout the first six years in the district. He started his teaching career in 2005 as a math teacher at Eastern High School. Bill has served on various community boards and in other volunteer capacities throughout his career, and currently serves as the past chair of the Capital Area College Access Network board, as a member of the Eaton Community Health board, and as a member of the advisory committee for the Coalition for College and Career Readiness (C3). In his local community, he is a member of the Grand Ledge Kiwanis Club, the Grand Ledge Rotary Club and the Grand Ledge Lions Club, he is a commissioner on the Grand Ledge Parks and Recreation Commission, and he is a member of the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce board of directors . Bill has a doctorate in educational leadership and a masters degree in K-12 administration from Michigan State University, he has a bachelors degree in English with a math minor and secondary teaching certificate from Western Michigan University, and he earned a graduate certificate in marketing from Davenport University. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 2000. He has two daughters, Ellee and Natalee, and his wife, Erinn, is a kindergarten teacher in Grand Ledge Public Schools.
