Sue McCarty

Director of Human Resources

Sue McCarty has been the Director of Human Resources at Ypsilanti Community Schools since 2018. With over 20 years of experience in recruiting and retaining highly qualified and diverse personnel, Sue has a strong background in compliance. She brings a unique set of skills and expertise in closing and reopening school districts as a Charter School. Sue is an accomplished educator who has successfully restructured districts from closure to financial viability, working alongside State Emergency Managers.

Sue is well-versed in staff development and has used Adaptive Schools techniques with fidelity. She is skilled in union contract negotiations, facilitation, and monitoring all contractual obligations. As a robust and competent employee benefits manager, Sue has a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry.

Sue possesses a Master of Arts (MA) focused on Human Resources Development from Western Michigan University, along with a Human Resources Specialist Certification from Michigan School Business Officials. With her years of experience in building high-performing systems, Sue McCarty is an invaluable asset to the Ypsilanti Community Schools team.

Re-Designing learning today requires educators to rethink how we leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to engage students’ minds through inquiry, inspiration, and trust. Educators must learn to re-engage students authentically by using AI tools to listen for their strengths, interests, and values. Leaders must adopt new AI strategies that honor and engage student voice, choice, and agency. This session will assist leaders with gaining how to leverage AI tools that support the skills, competencies, and a common language necessary to navigate and adapt in today's world. Leaders will learn practical AI strategies that strategically elevate student voices so that a full range of ideas, approaches, and perspectives are valued and recognized. Join us to learn how Ypsilanti Community Schools has begun this journey with its leadership team and educators to develop a true learning community.
