Dr. Tina Kerr

Executive Director

Dr. Tina Kerr took over the role of MASA Executive Director on July 1, 2020, having served as its Deputy Executive Director since 2015 overseeing operations and various programs throughout Michigan. A former Michigan Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Kerr brings nearly a decade of experience as a superintendent and more than 30 years of combined education experience to the role. She is a dedicated advocate for public school students and has actively served alongside instructional leaders at the local, state and national levels on numerous educational boards and committees. Dr. Kerr holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University.

- Featured Speaker: U of M National Center for School Safety

Keynote: Dr. Hodge will discuss the three domains (Social-Academic-Moral) that he says can only thrive in a culture of Distributed Leadership. Using this framework to guide your work, interventions can be tailored to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of schools in urban, suburban, and rural districts throughout the United States. Feature Speaker:
The National Center for School Safety (NCSS) based at the University of Michigan School of Public Health is focused on improving school safety and preventing school violence. NCSS supports schools, districts, and other entities to implement evidence-based school safety programs designed to help increase the ability of school communities to identify appropriate school safety strategies and adapt them to fit their unique contexts, including their school’s capacity, population, geography, and funding constraints.

In the Summer of 2023, the Michigan Legislature significantly amended PERA and Section 1248 of the Revised School Code. How did we get here and what does it mean? This presentation will briefly explore the history of labor relations in Michigan schools and provide a pathway to move forward.
