Shellie Gohl

Director of Instruction

Shellie Gohl of Alpena, Michigan is the Director of Instruction for the Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District (AMA ESD). She has a total of 22 years in education which has included multiple K-6 elementary teaching positions within Alpena Public Schools, as well as the opportunity to serve as a K-3 Literacy coach before coming to the AMA-ESD. She serves as the Co-Chair of the Early Literacy Task Force, and is a member of the General Education Leadership Network (GELN) and the Early Childhood Administrators Network (ECAN). Shellie is also a facilitator for the MAISA Early Literacy Coaches Intensive Institutes. She is married to her high school sweetheart, William Gohl and has two daughters; Madysen who is a Junior at GVSU and Peyton who is a Sophomore at Alpena High School.

Building Quality Classroom Libraries [Teaching & Learning]

This session will focus on how districts/schools can harness the power of designing classroom libraries for each classroom that fosters motivation and engagement for readers through community partnerships and the commitment of ongoing allocated funds. Join us to hear about the 8 session learning series we provide for teachers that help them take their classroom libraries from "book deserts" to book rich environments that are inclusive to all students and their interests. This session aligns to the K-3 Essential Instructional Practice #8 and the new Organizational Practices #7, as well as the recommended District Commitments written by the Early Literacy Task Force.

Focus: Small & Rural Districts/Diversity, Equity, Inclusion/Teaching & Learning.
